School Announcements

  • Promise Academy opens soon

    We’re excited about the opportunity to provide additional supports and enrichment experiences for our students.  At William Wells Brown, we LIFT, LEARN, and LOVE. 

    • July 25, from 6 to 7 p.m.: Family Information Night at Shiloh Baptist Church (237 E. 5th St.) to learn about The Promise Academy
    • July 29: WWB office reopens for the summer, weekdays 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • July 30: School registration window opens, through Aug. 8. If you know any families with children who will turn 5 on or before Aug. 1, please encourage them to register their child. 
    • Aug. 2 and 5: In Heart to Heart Home Visits, teachers will stop by the homes of all of their students to help create a close-knit community between our families and faculty. You should expect your child's teacher to visit your home between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on one of those two days. Families, please watch your mailbox for your child’s teacher assignment and an introduction to the William Wells Brown staff.
    • Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Back to School Rally at Shiloh Baptist Church
    • Aug. 5, from 2 to 6 p.m.: Kindergarten Kickoff. Please call administrative assistant Donald Catlett beginning July 29 to schedule a time slot, (859) 381-4990.
    • Aug. 8: First day of school for grades K-5; doors open at 7:15 for breakfast and instruction starts at 7:45 a.m.
    • Aug. 21: First day for preschoolers; doors open at 7:15 for breakfast and instruction starts at 7:45 a.m.

    Meals & snacks: All of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack daily.

    Dress code & uniform: Beginning the first day of school, students should wear a uniform consisting of a solid color polo-style shirt, old color cardigans, sweaters or sweatshirts without a hood over a collard shirt, khaki material pants in either tan, navy or black, and knee-length shorts, skorts, skirts or jumpers of khaki material in either tan, navy or black.

  • 21st Century summer camp bridges learning

    Monica Davis, who coordinates the activities, said students get a rigorous instructional camp that is also fun and engaging. “We hope to ensure the kids can retain what they learned during the school year and maybe get a jump-start on the fall as well,” she said.
