Fayette County Public Schools is searching for its next superintendent. Members of the Fayette County Board of Education are committed to collaborating with our community and working as a team to find the best candidate to guide our district into the future.

Screening Committee Members
- Certified representatives: Sarah Fightmaster Bayerle, who teaches kindergarten at Maxwell Spanish Immersion Elementary, and Whitney Walker, who teaches social studies at Lafayette High School
- Classified representative: Adrielle Camuel, who serves as an administrative assistant in the Department of Student Belonging & Success
- Principal representative: Julie Strange of Wellington Elementary
- Parent/guardian representative: Matthew Vied, whose children attend Cassidy Elementary and Morton Middle School
- School board representative: Penny Christian, the District 3 member on the Fayette County Board of Education

About the Committee
Under Kentucky law, a Superintendent Screening Committee must be established within 30 days of the Fayette County Board of Education vote affirming a vacancy. The committee must include:
- two teachers/certified employees, elected by teachers/certified employees (includes all employees who must hold a teacher’s certification for their position; includes counselors, media specialists, assistant principals, and district administrators)
- one classified employee, elected by classified employees (includes hourly and salaried classified personnel)
- one principal, elected by principals (includes only head principals and program directors)
- one parent or guardian, elected by the presidents of parent/teacher organizations from each school, and
- one school board member, appointed by the board chair

August 2026
- Aug. 17: Board's declaration of superintendent vacancy
- Aug. 24: Communication to staff, families, and the public
- Aug. 26 at 8 a.m.: Screening Committee nominations open
September
- Sept. 2 at noon: Nominations close
- Sept. 3 at 8 a.m.: Voting begins
- Sept. 9 at 11:59 p.m.: Voting closes
- Sept. 11: Announcement of the screening committee members

- Development of superintendent profile through input sessions and surveys
- Position profile reviewed and approved by the board and used to develop job description
- Superintendent position posted at the national, state, and local levels
- Applications received and vetted to ensure qualifications are met
- Screening committee reviews applicants and makes recommendations to the board
- School board reviews applications and recommendations, conducts interviews, and determines the finalists
- FCPS hosts public forums featuring the finalists and collects feedback
- New superintendent selected, with a start date of July 1, 2027
