Hello STEAM Academy Students and Families,

We were recently informed that our district plans to offer the ACT state assessment to both sophomores and juniors this spring for FREE! This is great news for our students as this is the primary exam we use for entrance criteria into our dual credit BCTC courses. The exam date is set for Tuesday, March 12th, 2019 and the test will begin promptly at 7:45am at our 123 E. Sixth St campus. You do not need to do anything to register for this exam as the district has taken care of this process already. Also, if your child qualifies for any accommodations, those will be given at the school as well. On this date, students will need to bring two #2 pencils and a graphing calculator (if they have a personal one). Calculators will be provided for students who do not have their own. Please note no food or drinks are allowed in the exam rooms.

Qualifying BCTC Entrance Scores: In order to qualify for the initial dual credit courses students must score a minimum of an 18 on the English ACT subsection AND a minimum of a 20 on the Reading ACT subsection. In addition to these scores, students must have an unweighted cumulative high school GPA of a 2.5 or higher and have successfully completed Geometry, Chemistry, and English 3 here at STEAM.

Free ACT Practice: If your child would like to work on practice tests before the ACT please visit https://academy.act.org/ and create a free student account.

If your child would like to sign up for another ACT exam on their own this spring, please visit www.actstudent.org to complete the registration process for one of the Saturday national test dates here in town. If you have any questions about this exam please contact eric.ridd@fayette.kyschools.us. We are very excited about this great opportunity for our sophomores and juniors this year!
