School psychologists salute Winburn's Birdwhistell for outstanding work
The Kentucky Association for Psychology in the Schools (KAPS) has presented Winburn's Jessie Birdwhistell with a 2019-20 statewide Best Practice Award. Colleagues saluted her during the KAPS fall conference at the Lexington Convention Center. A Lexington native, Birdwhistell is in her sixth year as school psychologist at Winburn Middle; she previously served at Meadowthorpe and Russell Cave elementaries. She earned a doctorate in school psychology at the University of Kentucky and a certificate in developmental disabilities through UK’s Human Development Institute. Her undergraduate degree in psychology came from Denison University in Ohio, where she played NCAA soccer.
“I am thankful to work as a school psychologist and serve as an advocate for students and families within public education,” Birdwhistell said. “I look forward each day to the opportunity to learn from my colleagues, to see the strengths and potential in each individual, and to try to make a positive impact on the lives of others.”
