Tates Creek’s Dixon named 11th Region AD of the Year
John Dixon of Tates Creek High School is the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s 11th Region Athletic Director of the Year. “I was very humbled and appreciative that my peers of AD’s voted for me,” he said. Dixon, who will represent Fayette, Scott, Franklin, and Madison counties, is now in the running for the statewide honor, which will be presented during the April 22-24 KHSADA conference in Louisville.
Dixon has been the athletic director for eight years at Tates Creek, where he has also coached football and tennis and chaired the English Department. “It’s a family atmosphere. We try to build impactful relationships with our student-athletes and promote positive experiences on and off the field,” he said. Principal Marty Mills praised his efforts, saying, “No one works harder, is as committed to all student-athletes, or deserves this honor more than him.”
A native of Cumberland, Dixon earned a bachelor’s degree in English, a Master of Arts in Education (Leadership), and a master’s in Special Education from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. He has worked a total of 17 years at Tates Creek.
