Education Chair & Superintendent Tour Tates Creek Campuses

Principal Carrie Paul welcomed House Education Chair James Tipton of Taylorsville and Superintendent Demetrus Liggins for an informative tour of our school as part of their larger visit to all the Tates Creek campuses. It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our incredible students and staff!

At Tates Creek Elementary, for instance, Paul pointed out the mental health specialists on hand, how Title I funds support our Spanish and specials classes, the broad impact of Reading Recovery efforts, and the importance of our Family Resources Center. Tipton paused several times to ask about various topics, including state testing, foster children in school, the number of English Learners (ESL population), and the teacher shortage across the Commonwealth.

The visitors, who peeked in various classrooms, also heard how TCE – as a trauma-informed school – believes in a therapeutic and proactive approach with all students. For instance, Tipton noticed the soothing background music in a first-grade reading class, and Paul mentioned that TCE prefers cool-off corners over time-out. “We’re about success,” Paul said. “Everybody’s here to win.”
