SCAPA earns silver status among America’s Healthiest Schools

P.E. and health teacher Angela Stark with SCAPA's latest banner The Alliance for a Healthier Generation has saluted SCAPA at Bluegrass and 517 other schools across the nation for promoting quality nutrition, regular physical activity, and strong wellness policies. A silver-level honoree, SCAPA is Fayette County’s only award recipient in the 2020 America’s Healthiest Schools program. Kentucky has 44 recipients altogether.

“Receiving this award is such an honor because so much hard work went into it – from our staff to parents to our students to district Child Nutrition staff. I couldn’t be prouder of this amazing accomplishment. Only 63 schools in the entire country received the silver award!” said Angela Stark, SCAPA’s physical education and health teacher.

For nearly 15 years, Healthier Generation has recognized schools implementing best practices that support children’s learning and development, including meeting or exceeding federal standards for nutritious school meals and providing regular opportunities for students and staff to be active throughout the school day. The schools earn bronze, silver, or gold status based on the standards they achieve.
