PLD Lamplighter Sweeps State Competition

We just got the results from this year's statewide media competition, and we placed in almost every category! Please congratulate the following students because to still be publishing and producing this level of work during this past year has been a major feat! I hope you are as proud of them as I am.

Sadie Bograd-First Place Best News Story "Legislators Threaten Student and Teacher Roles on State Board of Education"

Sadie Bograd-First Place Best News Photography "Parent Protest NTI at District Office"

Ella Williams-First Place Review Writing "Vegan Ice Cream Not to Be Dismissed"

Max He-Second Place Editorial Writing "Being Chinese During the COVID Outbreak"

Dylan Stern-Second Place Editorial Cartoon "May Her Memory Be a Blessing"

Sadie also won "Most Valuable News Staff Member" in the state.

And overall, we received Second Place in the Best High School News website category. www.pldlamplighter.org Our webmaster and online editor, Alex Gonzalez, deserves a lot of credit for her design work on the site.

The judge stated:

"PLD Lamplighter has a clear grasp of their audience and knows what will interest them, as well as what's important to them. However, they didn't limit their coverage to what was going on within their school. I was impressed with the students that went beyond their school telling stories from the local community, as well as stories with statewide importance, particularly as they related to education and localizing national topics."
