District 1 voters choose newcomer for school board seat
In the Nov. 5 election, voters on Lexington’s south side favored parent volunteer Christy Morris over District 1 school board member Will Nash to represent them on the Fayette County Board of Education. Morris, who received nearly 60 percent of the votes, will be sworn in Nov. 11. Her term runs through 2020.
Co-founder of a non-profit that provides food for low-income students, Morris has promised to advocate for all schools in the first district. She has two sons attending Rosa Parks Elementary. Nash was appointed to the school board in November 2018 after then-Chair Melissa Bacon resigned to care for her mother.
