School board approves 2019 high school graduation schedule

The Fayette County Board of Education voted April 11 to amend the district’s instructional calendar and set Friday May 31 as the last day of classes and June 3-4 as commencement dates. The six high school graduations are slated after the weekend because of a Saturday concert in Rupp Arena. Here is the 2019 lineup:

Monday June 3

  • 10 a.m. – Paul Laurence Dunbar
  • 1:30 p.m. – Tates Creek
  • 5 p.m. – Bryan Station

Tuesday June 4

  • 10 a.m. – Frederick Douglass
  • 1:30 p.m. – Henry Clay
  • 5 p.m. – Lafayette

Please call the graduating senior’s school for ceremony details.

Each spring, Fayette County Public Schools waits until the threat of wintry weather is past and all make-up days are set before announcing graduation dates. State law requires school districts to make up every day missed so that the school year contains at least 170 days of teaching and learning and 1,062 instructional hours. For questions, please contact district spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall.
