It’s time for 2019-20 kindergarten registration; Step 1 available online

To enroll a child in kindergarten for 2019-20 in Fayette County Public Schools, families may begin online at fcps.net/register. The child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 to start kindergarten this fall. (See below for details on preschool.)

After submitting the online form, families must then go to their neighborhood’s assigned school with their form number and two proofs of residence (e.g. deed or lease and a utility bill) to complete the registration process. To determine which school, use the SchoolSite Locator tool. For a list of required paperwork and health forms, visit fcps.net/enrollment

The first in-person registration window runs Feb. 5-22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays, plus 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 12. (If schools close because of bad weather, then registration is canceled.) The second sign-up window is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays April 9-26, plus 5 to 7 p.m. on April 16. These windows are for this fall’s incoming kindergarteners. Older students joining FCPS may register starting July 30 through Aug. 14, which is the first day of school.

Note: Families new to FCPS this semester who are enrolling K-12 students for the current school year may access the 2018-19 online form and proceed anytime.

For registration questions, please call the Pupil Personnel office at (859) 381-4130. For resources to help youngsters transition to school, visit fcps.net/kindergarten.

Preschool process

The 2019-20 paper application packet for the Fayette County Preschool Program will be available in late April. Families may apply if their child turns 4 on or before Aug. 1 and is income-eligible. Three- and 4-year-olds who have a special need may also apply.

Parents or legal guardians can begin with the online form. They must then visit the FCPS Early Childhood Department at 701 E. Main St. later this spring for additional paperwork. Families without computer access may fill out the entire application starting in late April at the district office or at their local elementary school.

Note: Families may submit preschool applications for the current school year (2018-19) anytime.

Visit fcps.net/preschool for more information.
