FCPS Sends 2 New Members to KDE Student Advisory Council

Twenty-five public high school students, including two from Fayette County Public Schools, have been named to the 2023-24 Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council, based in Frankfort. Congratulations to Anopa Musoni, a rising senior at Lafayette; and Sophia Staples, a rising junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar.

The council connects our students with staff at the Kentucky Department of Education to develop ideas to strengthen student voice and transform education. The group meets regularly with the education commissioner, both in person and virtually, to discuss how decisions made at the state level affect students and schools throughout Kentucky.

More than 100 students applied for a spot on the advisory council. The new members will join 12 returning students this fall, including Peter Jefferson, a rising junior at Henry Clay High School, and Vijaykumar Karthikeyan, a rising senior at Dunbar.
