Kentucky’s first lady, Britainy Beshear, visited four elementaries in Fayette County Public Schools to read picture books to youngsters and connect with our Lexington community. “It’s fun for me to do, and I hope all these kids know that they matter,” she said Friday morning.
At Picadome, a handful of fifth graders greeted Beshear with a colorful welcome banner outside the front door. She invited them along to Erin Vicini’s kindergarten classroom, where she read aloud “Dragons Love Tacos” and “Even Superheroes Have Bad Days” to an enthusiastic group. Afterward, Vicini mentioned her students had this week started to learn about rhyming words, so the superheroes book was a fitting choice. Vicini also read a poem her class had written together and presented the first lady with it and a slim book of artwork where the children had illustrated how to show kindness.
Beshear later visited with third graders in Whitney Tharp’s class at Garden Springs, in Whitney Keinath’s class at James Lane Allen, and in Shelly Praria’s class at Stonewall.
