JLA marks literacy, kindness, & cultural appreciation
James Lane Allen Elementary recently hosted a Literacy Day thanks to a Project Place grant through the University of Kentucky. More than 30 participating families enjoyed a beautiful afternoon together – learning about literacy, displaying kindness, and appreciating other cultures. JLA had set up several activity stations, including a photo booth, a craft table, and LEGO building, and every first-grader took home a book. In addition, teachers encouraged them to help decorate a banner labeled “What makes your family special?” The first grade teachers organized the event with help from the school’s English Learners team and the Family Resource Center, along with the Lexington Public Library.
