Hayes & Jessie Clark take home 2021 volleyball plaques
The girls’ A-league eighth grade team at Edythe J. Hayes Middle School capped an undefeated volleyball season by beating second-seeded Beaumont on Oct. 5 for the tournament championship. Top-seeded Jessie Clark also collected top honors with victories over No. 2 Hayes in the B division (seventh graders) and over No. 2 Bryan Station in the C group (sixth graders).
In the A bracket, Hayes had a first-round bye and then eliminated No. 4 Crawford en route to a 12-0 record under head coach Shelby Shanks. "Our championship victory was really a team effort. They all brought their 'A' game and worked as a team to put the cherry on top of their undefeated season," said coach Alexis Morgan.
In the other playoffs, Jessie Clark’s B squad (10-1) defeated fourth-seeded Beaumont and the C team (6-0) ousted No. 5 Hayes in the second round. “I am so, so proud of every girl on the team. They all worked so hard this season to make it to the top,” said Jessie Clark’s first-year head coach, Ashlee Rose. “For most of the sixth graders coming in with little to no experience playing volleyball, they really showed us what they are capable of. I am excited for the future with these groups!”
