Runners shine in Fayette’s 2021 cross-country championships

Hundreds of runners competed in the 2021 FCPS Cross Country Championships, hosted Oct. 5 by Edythe J. Hayes Middle School. Among the highlights, Southern Middle and Beaumont tied for the GPA Award with a 3.78, and all the middle school teams boasted at least a 3.0 GPA.

Following are Top 3 results from the team standings and individual winners by division.

High school boys (4.7K)

1st place to Tates Creek; 2nd Lafayette; 3rd Henry Clay

  • Winner: Philip Lamartiniere, a junior at Tates Creek, in 15:23.2

High school girls (5K)

1st place to Lafayette; 2nd Paul Laurence Dunbar; 3rd Henry Clay

  • Winner: Anaya Brown, a senior at Lafayette, in 19:47.2

Middle school boys

1st place to Beaumont; 2nd Leestown; 3rd Morton

  • Winner: Gabriel Smith, an eighth grader at Jessie Clark, in 13:59.7

Middle school girls

1st place to Beaumont; 2nd Jessie Clark; 3rd Bryan Station

  • Winner: Susanne Estepp, an eighth grader at Beaumont, in 15:59.0

Elementary boys (2K)

1st place to Liberty; 2nd Rosa Parks; 3rd Athens-Chilesburg

  • Winner: Kingston Hudspeth, a third grader at Liberty, in 7:11.6

Elementary girls (2K)

1st place to Liberty; 2nd Rosa Parks; 3rd Athens-Chilesburg

  • Winner: Emma Clark, a third grader at Liberty, in 7:44.3
