2021 graduates of Henry Clay & Dunbar secure National Merit Scholarships
The more than 1,000 latest winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities include two recent graduates of Fayette County Public Schools:
From Henry Clay High School
Lawrence Goodwin, University of Alabama, construction engineering
From Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
Sarah Albrecht, Centre College, chemistry
Each sponsor college selected their 2021 recipients from among the finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their school. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. The National Merit Scholarship Program announced the first group of college-sponsored scholarships in June, bringing the total number of recipients to about 4,100. In the spring, NMSC released winners of corporate-sponsored awards and National Merit $2,500 Scholarships. Overall, this distinguished group of about 7,500 high school graduates will receive National Merit Scholarships for college undergraduate study worth nearly $30 million.
