Henry Clay paces FCPS in 2021 state tennis tournaments

In boys’ doubles, Henry Clay’s Niko Klyachkin and Arthur Sultanov made it to the semifinals of the 2021 KHSAA State Tennis Championships, losing June 3 to the top-seeded eventual champions. Blue Devil teammates Wenxiang Sun and Jake Walters dropped their third-round match. In the singles’ bracket, Tates Creek’s Zach White advanced to the semis at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville after defeating Henry Clay’s Evan Duggal, and Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Kian Rosenau lost in the third round. In the team standings, Henry Clay finished second overall. The coaches association named the Commodores’ Zach White, the only senior to reach the final day in singles, Mr. Tennis for 2021.

In the girls’ state tournament, Henry Clay’s Sarah Clark and Kennedy Herring dropped a fourth-round doubles match, and Lafayette’s Helena Weiss lost in the third round of singles’ play at the UK Boone/Downing Tennis Club.
