Two from Tates Creek make 2020 All-Resilient Team

Kaleb Givens  Devin Uyhazy The 2020 All-Resilient Team from includes two students from Tates Creek High School: senior Kaleb Givens and freshman Devin Uyhazy.

Kaleb endured rigorous physical therapy to return to the Commodores basketball team after hip dislocations in 2017 and 2018, with the latter injury requiring a surgical fix. He won Player of the Game honors at the Iron Warrior Classic with an 18-point performance, and scored 23 points with seven 3-pointers in a game against rival Bryan Station. Kaleb also excelled academically.

Devin’s congenital heart condition worsened in early 2018, but after a transplant, he was back for the start of the 2019 marching band season. His band director noted participation requires hard work, conditioning, and stamina, and Devin met all those physical demands, helping Tates Creek earn the Class 4A runner-up honors in a Mid-States Band Association competition.

Known as the Voice of the Wildcats, Leach announces University of Kentucky football games on the UK Radio Network. His annual All-Resilient Team honors student-athletes from Kentucky high schools who have overcome adversity to compete and often excel in sports. Athletic directors across the state submit nominations, and the honorees are saluted at the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association’s spring awards banquet. This year, however, the April 25 event in Louisville was canceled because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
