Fayette students excel in 2020 Bluegrass Regional Art Exhibition
Creative students from Fayette County Public Schools submitted outstanding work for the 2020 Bluegrass Regional High School Art Exhibition. Lexi Ocampo of Lafayette received the Chair Award for her entry titled “Memelord,” while Best of Show 3-D honors went to Mason Gohde of Bryan Station for “Gun Kanjima.” Earning the Art Education/AESA Awards were Lauren Music of Henry Clay for “Undeclared Major” and Kathryn Frias of Frederick Douglass for “Yellow Submarine.” These four young artists advanced for state-level competition, along with the first-place winners in each category.
Teens from some two dozen counties could enter the Bluegrass contest, which was co-sponsored by the Kentucky Art Education Association (KAEA) and Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Art & Design. The Giles Gallery on EKU’s Richmond campus was to host a March 22 reception and awards ceremony, but organizers canceled it amid COVID-19 concerns. The All-State Art Show was to be on display at the Hellmann Creative Center in Covington starting April 6 with KAEA awards presented May 3, but leaders also canceled those public events because of the pandemic.
