Leadership Lexington Youth Program taps 31 juniors from FCPS

Students place boards between tires to make a path where everyone can cross safely. Nearly three dozen students from Fayette County Public Schools will participate in the 2019-20 Leadership Lexington Youth Program, which prepares high school juniors through education and interaction as they explore their community. The teenagers will network with local leaders as they delve into diverse issues, post-secondary options, career fields, and business opportunities. LLYP motivates the students to think seriously about the role they could play and the difference they can make in Lexington.

Following the Sept. 4 orientation at the Fayette County Cooperative Extension office, the students will gather one Wednesday a month: Local Lex Day (Oct. 2), Health & Human Services Day (Nov. 6), Government & Public Safety Day (Dec. 4), Arts & Media Day (Jan. 8), Ambassadors for Change Day (Feb. 5), and Higher Education & Career Development Day (March 4). The April 8 graduation luncheon will cap this academic year’s program, whose sponsors are UK HealthCare, FCPS, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky.
