Southern Middle picks up national honors in 2019 TSA contests
Competing for Southern Middle School, Philip Lamartiniere and Hope Meyers took second place in Structural Engineering at the 2019 National TSA Conference. More than 8,000 people attended the event, which ran June 28 through July 2 near Washington, D.C., where the theme was “Model the Way.”
Also in the middle school division, Southern’s Megan Basham placed sixth in Essays on Technology and ninth in Career Prep, and the team of Philip Lamartiniere, Luke Jacobs, and Gabe Mattingly finished 10th in Tech Bowl with the ninth overall highest combined test score among the 97 teams. Southern’s TSA club adviser is Staci Davis.
TSA fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in innovation and design. Club members apply and integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts through co-curricular activities, competitive events, and related programs.
