FCPS entries sweep awards in 2019 Youth Arts Council Exhibition
FCPS students were the top prize winners in this spring’s 10th annual Youth Arts Council Exhibition, presented during the May 17 Gallery Hop reception at the Living Arts & Science Center. Deja Baker of Bryan Station High School earned first-place honors and a $100 prize for her photograph “Colorism: A Concept.” Lindsay Maystead of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School was runner-up ($75) with her painting “Wonder,” and third place ($50) went to Jessica Harrison of Bryan Station for the fiber work “Carpe Dieme.”
Overall, 135 students submitted 270 pieces, and 90 of the 92 selected entries were from Fayette County Public Schools. Lexington painter Lennon Michalski judged the 2019 competition. Receiving honorable mention were Bryan Station’s Mia Durham, Isabelle Soult, and Carmen Coleman, Dunbar’s Nancy Zhang, and Henry Clay’s Jonah Peck.
