Generals sweep 11th Region baseball & softball crowns

Lafayette's softball team blanked Lexington Catholic 2-0 for the 11th Region championship June 8 in Berea. With the win, the Generals qualified for their fifth state tournament, where they last played 10 years ago. Pitcher Trinity Bridges, the tournament’s MVP, gave up only one run in three games and struck out 43 batters. She fanned 14 in the title game and gave up only two hits to LexCath as Lafayette advanced to the semi-state round at the University of Kentucky’s John Cropp Stadium.

On the baseball diamond, Lafayette knocked off Madison Central 8-1 in the June 7 title game in Lexington. Tournament MVP Micah Cowen allowed four hits and two walks in the victory, which gave the Generals their first 11th Region baseball title since 2004. Lafayette will be among the favorites in the 2021 KHSAA State Baseball Tournament, which opens with semi-state rounds at the University of Kentucky’s Kentucky Proud Park.
