Two from Lafayette earn Scholastic Art & Writing national medals
Two Lafayette students have earned honors at the national level of the 2020 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. Receiving gold medals were Tuesday Hadden for “Grandmother Earth” in the Future New art category and Amelia Loeffler for “Mount Whitney, Manzanar, and Marianna” in Personal Essay & Memoir. They earlier garnered regional recognition along with several others from Fayette County Public Schools.
The nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers aims to identify teenagers with exceptional talent and present their remarkable work to a broader audience. Each year, students in grades 7–12 apply in 29 categories for a chance to earn scholarships and have their entries exhibited and published. The judges look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
