Esports team captures 2020 winter championship

Defending champion Lafayette won a best-of-three match against Elizabethtown in the 2020 PlayVS/KHSAA Esports Winter State Championship, hosted Jan. 30 by the University of Kentucky. The Generals’ team for the online battle arena game included role players Oscar Lin, Sean Reardon, Thatcher Nicholson, Richard Chen, and Zeno Day.

This is the second year that esports has been a KHSAA-sanctioned sport activity. Lafayette also won the League of Legends state championship in spring 2019. Esports stands for electronic sports -- not to be confused with video games. It’s about teamwork, communication, strategic thinking, and leadership.
