Sophomore earns special award in 2021 international science fair
Kiera Fehr, who just completed her sophomore year at Henry Clay High School, received a special award May 20 in the 2021 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair. Kiera’s project — Rewriting the Industry: A Novel Approach to 100% Biodegradable Ink Production and Recyclability — earned her a spot at North Carolina State University’s Engineering Summer Camp.
The ISEF competition featured more than 1,800 young scientists representing 49 states and 64 countries. Because of COVID-19 precautions, this marked the first time in its more than 70-year history that ISEF took place virtually. Kiera is this year’s only winner from Fayette County Public Schools.
Kiera plans to finish high school at the Craft Academy for Science and Mathematics at Morehead State University while earning a minimum of 64 college credit hours upon graduation.
