Henry Clay senior Rob Gilligan won first place in the Optimist Club of Lexington’s 2021 essay contest, advancing to compete for a $2,500 college scholarship. His entry addressed this year’s Optimist International theme, “Reaching Your Dream by Choosing Optimism.” Judges will now consider Rob’s essay along with winners from other clubs in the Kentucky-West Virginia District.
The Optimist Club of Lexington, which was chartered in June 2019, launched its essay contest in 2020. “Our club is delighted to recognize Mr. Gilligan for his achievement in this unusual year,” said club President Sean Smith, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We look forward to being represented at the district level by his work.”
