Boys' soccer coach and two players earn statewide awards
The Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association named Henry Clay’s Jason Behler as 2019 Coach of the Year, Charlie Boone as the boys’ Defensive Player of the Year, and Ethan Anderson as Goalkeeper of the Year. (Ethan allowed the fewest scores this season.) Teammate Sota Ippongi joined Charlie and Ethan on the all-state first team for the East division. Closer to home, Sota is Lexington’s 2019 Player of the Year after a vote by the boys’ soccer coaches. He, Charlie, and Ethan also made all-city first team, while Tahj Jairam and Keandre Sandoval were named second team.
On the girls' side, Elisabeth Hundley made the all-state second team as selected by the Kentucky Girls’ Soccer Coaches Association. In Lexington, she was named to the all-city first team, while teammates Ella Pugh and Corinne Leach made the second team as voted on by local coaches.
