Mr. Benjamin VanderHorst is the new principal at Glendover Elementary. He has experience teaching at the elementary level as well as experience in leadership in his role as professional growth and effectiveness coach at Garden Springs, where he worked hand in hand with his principal learning the ins and outs of managing a school. He has taken the lead with PLCs, PBIS, MTSS, technology, grant writing, and professional learning. He will bring positive energy, creative thinking, innovation, and a heart for all students.
Before entering administration, Mr. VanderHorst taught for six years at Arlington Elementary School. He also brings management experience from the private sector, having worked as a pool manager and regional manager with Professional Pool Management of Kentucky since 2008. He holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Kentucky.
“Mr. VanderHorst is a servant leader who keeps students at the center of all things,” said Elementary Schools Chief Lisa Smith. “He brings to this job great enthusiasm, prior leadership experience, and an eagerness to meet the faculty, staff, students, and families. He will be an excellent addition to the Glendover school community.”
