Principal Update
I hope that you and your family are enjoying this weekend. We were all surprised Friday morning with a day off due to inclement weather. This snow day has moved the 100th day of school to Tuesday, January 31st. We are also rescheduling PJ Day to this next Friday, February 3rd.
We have noticed some safety concerns with morning arrival. We understand that it is cold, but it's important that we get as many students through the car rider line while remaining safe for all students and staff. Please see information below about our arrival expectations.
As we roll into the winter months, the possibility of winter weather forces us to prepare for NTI Days (non-traditional instruction). You can find information on the district's webpage: fcps.net/weather . Chromebooks for our students will not be sent home daily, but will be sent home once an NTI day is announced. Students should know how to login for their work and teachers and staff will be available for office hours to support the learning at home.
Thank you for your partnership as we continue to work together to reach our full potential and to provide opportunities for our students to be a positive force in our changing world!
Sincerely,
Cynthia Bruno, Principal
Morning Arrival
- Pull all the way down in the car rider line. This helps us get as many cars in the line as possible. We understand that it's cold outside (trust me - we are standing out there for 30 min), your child will always have a short walk inside. We've noticed some cars like to stop in front of certain doors which slows down the line and decreases the number of cars we are able to get through the line before 7:45.
- For our 3rd - 5th grade students - they can enter the building through the FRC door or the back door. Whatever the case, when your car has stopped in the car lane, please have your child exit the vehicle. We've noticed that many families like to drive all the way to the end so their child doesn't have a long walk to the back door, but again, they can enter the FRC door or the backdoor. When you move all the way down to get closer to the backdoor this slows down the line.
- If your child is dropped off after 7:45 they will need to enter through the front door. You can pull into the front loop at that time. Our staff enter the building at 7:45 and we close all side doors at that time.
Let our teachers and staff know that they ROCK!
What is Project Based Learning?
As we grow our Personalized Learning program and work towards becoming a nationwide model for Personalized Learning at the elementary level, it's important that our community understand the components of Personalized Learning we are implementing. Next year we plan on adding a consistent approach for goal setting and a learner profile.
Family Resource Center
Family Resource Center is here to assist you! If you need assistance getting school supplies, clothing, or food for your Dixie student, please contact Ms. Gettis at 859-381-3128 or Kasey.gettis@fayette.kyschools.us
While Dixie's meals will continue at no charge for the 2022-23 school year (through the National School LunchProgram’s CEP-Community Eligibility Provision), it is still important that families who would qualify(Free/Reduced) meal assistance, to fill out an application every school year. This is a great support to ourfamilies but also provides funding and resources for the school.
-Income guidelines are below that may help determine if you should complete the application.
-If your child recently received an approval of direct certification (DC) benefits letter for this 2022-23 SY, you donot need to fill out the form.
-Only one form per family needed, and it only takes a few minutes. For the 2022-23 school year, complete thisform online @ http://bit.ly/FCPSEBF
Lunch
It's also important to know that when you come for lunch, we ask that you go to the cafeteria and then when lunch is over please exit the building out the front doors. We are enhancing our security and all exterior doors have alarms set when students are in the building.
