An academic team from Beaumont Middle School earned top honors in Section 23 of the 2020 Sixth Grade Showcase, which wrapped up Dec. 5. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, only four schools competed in this regional field – down sharply from last year’s three dozen participants. Winburn finished second overall, followed by Tates Creek in third place.
The Sixth Grade Showcase, which the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels sponsors, provides a competitive academic opportunity for the state’s sixth graders, who are sometimes “lost” between elementary and middle grades in the Governor’s Cup series. The format includes five written assessments, composition, and quick recall. This fall, groups of schools participated in 33 sections statewide. There is no state-level competition for this event.
