Beaumont girls edge Morton for 'A' basketball tournament title

Beaumont's championship team

Just before the buzzer sounded, eighth-grader Delaney Gash rebounded a missed layup and hit the winning basket as top-seeded Beaumont edged No. 2 Morton 39-37 for the girls’ “A” league basketball championship. Delaney led the Colts with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Amber Brandon and Bella Rusing also scored 10 apiece, and Riley Arnold pulled down nine boards in the Dec. 13 tournament finale.

“A game full of missed layups, defensive assignments, and free throws, yet we still managed to win – showing great heart and tenacity,” said Coach Anthony Wilson. “It was as usual a team effort. Certainly a special group of girls.” The tournament title capped the Colts’ 13-0 season. In other highlights, FCPS coaches selected Amber Brandon for the all-city team.
