Theatre students devise inventive ‘Cardboard Stories’
Playfully stacking boxes with her 5-year-old at home inspired theatre director Amie Kisling to challenge her Lafayette High School students to design a sort of pandemic pantomime performance. The result is an entertaining nonverbal play called “Cardboard Stories: Thinking outside the Box,” which the group videotaped for online distribution. “You made a piece. You created it from nothing! You made a show that makes me laugh every time,” an exuberant Kisling told the cast during the final rehearsal. “We literally said ‘Build a fort,’ and this whole beautiful story came out of it.” (Read the full story on the district website)

Lafayette tops in Bands of America regional field
Lafayette High School won the Bands of America 2019 Johnson City Regional Championship on Oct. 12 at East Tennessee State by a half point. This group also received nods for Outstanding Music Performance and Outstanding General Effect in a competition that included 31 bands in Class A through AAAA from eight states. It was the first Bands of America contest Lafayette has entered in five years; the school last won a regional championship in 1997.
