You can find information on various topics related to physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities. We will also update this webpage regularly with coming events, webinars, and video series to help you navigate different aspects of special education. March Spotlight: Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
-
Artwork by Jamila Rahimi / Art Enables
In 1987, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March as National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to spotlight the potential of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work, contribute, and enjoy typical lives. Please use the hashtags #DDAM or #BeyondtheConversation to promote and raise awareness and wear orange to show support!
World Down Syndrome Day
Since 2012, the United Nations has observed World Down Syndrome Day on March 21. Locally, the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky (DSACK) hosts events for families and supports an inclusive environment for people living with Down Syndrome.
Lots of Socks!
Believe it or not, socks help to get people talking on World Down Syndrome Day. Simply choose to wear socks that will get noticed -- they might be mismatched socks or your craziest and most colorful socks. Whatever takes your fancy!
