Overview
The Maxwell NTI-2DL Schedule provides a consistent school-wide view of the times that designated content will be delivered for each content area of focus. Additionally, this schedule details lunch, recess, and other common scheduling components. While the Maxwell Master Schedule is formally approved by the Maxwell Leadership Team and SBDM, the schedule is intended to be a living document that is updated to reflect changes required to meet the learning needs of students.
Definitions
Synchronous Learning
Synchronous learning refers to all types of learning in which learner(s) and teachers(s) are in the same place, at the same time, in order for learning to take place. This includes live online meetings when the whole class or smaller groups get together. In synchronous learning, students usually go through the learning path together, accompanied by their teacher who is able to provide support while students are completing tasks and activities.
Asynchronous Learning
Asynchronous learning is a student-centered teaching method widely used in online learning. Its basic premise is that learning can occur in different times and spaces particular to each learner, as opposed to synchronous learning at the same time and place with groups of learners and their teacher. In asynchronous learning, teachers usually set up a learning path, which students engage with at their own pace.
Schedule Explanation
Morning Meeting/Social & Emotional Learning Curriculum
Maxwell will be implementing the Caring School Community program this year. Monday through Thursday will begin with a 15-minute synchronous session on Zoom that is designed to help the class build community.
Whole Group Math/Reading
Monday through Thursday the students will be provided with asynchronous or synchronous whole group math/reading instruction. This instruction serves to introduce the learning target for the lesson and will set up students for independent work to be completed during the small group sessions or later in the afternoon.
Small Group Rotations
Monday through Thursday each student will rotate through three 20/25-minute Zoom synchronous rotations on those days. One rotation will work directly with the classroom teacher. The other two rotations may include independent work set up by the teacher or might include receiving services by another staff member. Finally, once a week a Spanish educator in the building will meet with a small group to focus on Spanish language development during one of the rotations.
Breaks
A morning and afternoon break has been built into the schedule to provide students with the opportunity for healthy movement during the day.
Social Studies/Science/Spanish Language
Monday through Thursday students will participate in a synchronous Zoom 30-minute session that will target social studies, science, or Spanish language instruction.
Lunch
Monday through Friday students will have a designated lunchtime.
Recess
Following lunch, a period for recess has been established in which students are encouraged to engage in physical activity.
Self-Guided Asynchronous Activity
Monday through Thursday students will engage in an hour of independent asynchronous work. During this time, students will continue to work independently on learning connected from the morning. Students might access activities in Seesaw/Google Classroom or the online platforms for the school’s curriculum. This could also be a time in which students are pulled into service groups as appropriate.
Imagine Math
Monday through Thursday students will work with the Imagine Math online platform for 20 minutes daily.
Imagine Reading
Monday through Thursday students will work with the Imagine Reading online platform for 20 minutes daily.
Specials
Monday through Thursday students will participate in 20-minute asynchronous segments of Specials daily using Seesaw.
Friday
Friday has been designated as a day for individual student checks of learning and opportunities for students to catch up on work from the week or engage in academic enhancement. Additional social learning opportunities may be offered on this day. Students will be expected to be available for instruction on this day. Communication will be shared in advance regarding schedules for Fridays.
