Out-of-Area Requests

In limited circumstances, Fayette County Public Schools may permit a student to attend a different school than the one serving their family's neighborhood.

Plug in the student's home address to see the assigned schools (elementary, middle, high):

SchoolSite Locator Tool

While not all schools are open to out-of-area (OOA) requests because of space limitations, you may ask for your child to attend an eligible school if they meet one of the criteria listed on the OOA application.

  • The criteria are extremely limited, and because of capacity concerns, all students are encouraged to attend their assigned schools.

Note: If your reason for seeking an OOA placement is not listed on the application, then you should not submit the online request.

Out-of-area application

The application for fall opens after Spring Break each year.

School Board Policy

  • Student–athletes who attend a school other than their resident-assigned school should contact the FCPS athletics director to review their eligibility status: (859) 422-4100.
  • The student's parent/guardian is responsible for adequate and timely transportation to and from school.
  • The student is expected to demonstrate acceptable behavior, make academic progress, and be in regular attendance.
