The Kentucky Music Educators Association has selected Leestown Middle School’s choir director, Lynn Przygoda, as its Middle School Teacher of the Year. She will be recognized during the statewide organization’s Feb. 7 awards ceremony at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville. She will also receive a $500 contribution to the Leestown music program.
“This is a great honor and testament to Mrs. Przygoda’s skill and dedication as a teacher, and I am overjoyed that students in Fayette County Public Schools have the opportunity to make music under her talented direction,” said Katherine Lowther, the district’s Fine Arts director.
Przygoda is also a humanities teacher at Leestown, where she leads the students' Exploratory Team and chairs the professional learning group for her school.
“I love teaching middle school choir because it's a place where music becomes a bridge for connection, growth, and joy. Middle schoolers bring a unique energy—they’re discovering their voices, not just musically but personally, and I get to guide them through that transformation. I love watching the shy kid find confidence in a solo or the group come together in perfect harmony after weeks of hard work,” she said. “It’s not just about the notes -- it’s about the spark of creativity, the resilience built in rehearsal, and the pride they feel after a performance. I thrive on the challenge of molding that raw, unfiltered middle school energy into something beautiful. Whether it’s through silly warm-ups that break the ice, teaching the fundamentals, or those moments when you see the light bulb go off, every day in choir is an adventure. It’s not just teaching music—it’s shaping young lives through a medium I'm deeply passionate about.”
