FCPS Selects Damon Sexton as November’s Honoree

Fayette County Public Schools has chosen Damon Sexton, the Family Resource Center coordinator at Sandersville Elementary, as the Kids’ Champion for November 2025. Each month, our district recognizes an outstanding member of Team FCPS who makes a real difference in students’ lives. Sexton displays exceptional dedication to his students and embodies these key champion characteristics: innovation, advocacy, empathy, knowledge, and a positive attitude.

The person who nominated Sexton wrote, in part:

“Innovative: He is always partnering with community partners to bring new services to our families –- Dads Cafe grant where dads are the creators and leaders, Black Soil market to our school and community, school dental van, cooking clubs, and so much more. He was helpful in our Family (Friendly) Schools certification. He did summer programming for our kids, too.

“Advocacy: He’s simply amazing. A student or family needs something, he's on it and if he doesn't have it, he will have it soon whether it's clothes, dentist, food -- the limits are endless. He's the best student, family, and staff advocate I know.

“Empathy: He feels for every single student and family he works with. He's always working to find new opportunities. You never ever feel like you're bothering him no matter what you need or how many times you need it.

“Knowledgeable: Partnerships he had before working here have set him up for success. His contacts are endless. If he doesn't know an answer, he will find someone who knows and to me, that is most important.

“Positive Attitude: He could talk to a wall and that makes him incredible at his job. He makes connections all the time, even in the car riders line. He deals with people in times of need and his go-getter attitude is top notch.

He deserves this recognition and more.”

Superintendent Demetrus Liggins surprised Sexton this week at school with the Kids’ Champion Award, sponsored by Forcht Bank. The Fayette County Board of Education will also salute him at their Nov. 24 action meeting.

If you know a Kids’ Champion who advocates for students and fosters a positive environment where all can thrive, you can recommend them for this districtwide recognition!
