Regular Attendance Crucial for School Success

Regular Attendance Crucial for School Success

Did you know that two absences from school a month means missing 1.5 years of learning by the time your child is a senior? Each day missed puts your student behind and makes it harder for them to catch up.

Building the foundation for good attendance starts at home, so FCPS encourages families to:

  • Help your student develop good sleep habits and regular morning routines.
  • Be firm and send your child to school every day, all day, unless they are sick.
  • Schedule doctor’s appointments and other activities outside of school hours.
  • Avoid taking vacations on school days.
  • Seek help early before your concerns become serious.
  • Work with your school staff to understand the options when your child must miss school.
  • Make sure you understand the terminology such as tardy, absent, and chronic absenteeism.
  • Connect with your Family Resource Center or Youth Services Center for relevant programs and resources.
