Kelly Sirginnis Returns to Tates Creek Middle as Principal
Kelly Sirginnis has been selected as the next principal of Tates Creek Middle School. With more than 20 years of experience in education and school leadership, Sirginnis has served as director of secondary schools for Jessamine County Schools since 2022. She will return to Team FCPS and begin her new role on July 1.
Sirginnis previously served 10 years as associate principal at Tates Creek Middle, where she received a commendation from the International Baccalaureate Organization for her work leading the IB Middle Years Programme and was awarded Educator of the Year in 2017 by the Kentucky PTA.
“Kelly’s strong background in educational leadership and her focus on collaboration to increase student outcomes are impressive,” said Superintendent Demetrus Liggins. "Her vision has consistently prioritized the growth of students and staff members, and at the heart of that vision was building trusting partnerships with families.”
Sirginnis has served in various roles with Fayette County Public Schools since 2001, including substitute teacher, gifted and talented coordinator, and social studies teacher at Winburn and Tates Creek Middle schools. As a classroom teacher, Sirginnis further engaged with school communities through duties such as building and assessment coordinator, department chair, and teacher representative and committee chair for the School-Based Decision-Making Council (SBDM). She also coached the academic and speech teams. In addition, Sirginnis taught for Lincoln County Schools at Lloyd McGuffey Center, and she worked as a highly skilled educator for the Kentucky Department of Education, assigned to the Kentucky School for the Blind and the Kentucky School for the Deaf.
“Drawing upon a robust academic foundation, Kelly Sirginnis brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise related to the IB Programme, Gifted and Talented Services, closing the achievement gap, and building teacher capacity to her new role as principal,” said Chief Middle School Leadership Officer Nikita Reed, who oversees Tates Creek Middle. “She prioritizes students above all else and is a champion for equity through her unwavering commitment to equitable treatment and opportunities for all – students, families, community, faculty, staff, and external partners in education. We have landed a jewel.”
Sirginnis holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Broadcasting from Elon College in North Carolina and a master’s in Teaching and Rank I in School Leadership and Gifted Education from Eastern Kentucky University.
