Henry Clay’s Martin Selected as Vice President of KASA

BJ Martin, associate principal at Henry Clay High School, has been selected as vice president of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA). As a member of the board of directors’ officer team, she will help advocate for key legislation in Frankfort and leadership development for current and aspiring principals and assistant principals across the state.

Board candidates are nominated by colleagues who are also KASA members. Martin took office after committee interviews, board consideration, and election during the Annual Leadership Institute, which ran July 29-31 in Louisville. 

“A KASA member since 2007, I have served five years on the KASA Board of Directors, currently serve on the Executive Policy Council, School Safety Council, and previously served on other KASA committees,” Martin said. “I am also active in the Coalition to Sustain Public Education, where I have co-chaired two task forces focused on recruitment and retention of teachers, as well as looking at equitable compensation and benefits across districts in Kentucky.”

Additionally, Martin was part of the Kentucky Women in Education Leadership cohort, and in 2023, was named the KASA School Administrator of the year. 

This is Martin’s 27th year in education, 10th in Fayette County Public Schools, and third year at Henry Clay. “I love helping students set goals and achieve them,” Martin said, adding, “Henry Clay is in the middle of moving to an academy model, so working with the leadership and staff at Henry Clay is a fun, full-filling and purposeful job that I love!”

Martin, who grew up in Eastern Kentucky, has bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Kentucky University. She also has certifications for principal, instructional supervisor, and superintendent, and she is working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at EKU. Previously in FCPS, she was an administrator at Winburn Middle and then elementary director of Teaching and Learning for the district.
