Fayette County Public Schools has chosen Aundria Elam, the FCPS Police officer at Southern Elementary, as the February Kids’ Champion. She displays exceptional dedication to students and embodies these key characteristics: innovation, advocacy, empathy, knowledge, and a positive attitude.
Each month, our district recognizes an outstanding member of Team FCPS who makes a difference in students’ lives. The person nominated Elam wrote: “It's easy to accept the norm when the norm is what surrounds us. However, when the norm is replaced by someone who goes far above and beyond, the difference is striking. Officer Elam exceeds expectations in all areas — work ethic, relationship building, and maintaining a positive attitude. While she may see it as simply doing her job, her dedication does not go unnoticed. Her day begins in the early morning darkness, ensuring the safety of our students as she slows down speeding cars in the school zone with her whistle and lighted baton. She diligently checks and rechecks locked classroom doors, quietly closing any left open. She fosters connections with students and staff through her warm conversations and kind smile. Even when her usual tasks are completed, she finds ways to contribute — whether it’s laminating a class project or lending a helping hand. Our school is safer and stronger because of Aundria Elam.”
On Valentine’s Day, Superintendent Demetrus Liggins surprised Elam with balloons and the Kids’ Champion Award, sponsored by Forcht Bank. The Fayette County Board of Education will also salute her at their Feb. 24 action meeting.
If you know a Kids’ Champion who advocates for students and fosters a positive environment where all can thrive, you can nominate them for this districtwide recognition.
