The school district has brought home two major awards from the Kentucky Music Educators Association. The Fayette County Board of Education received the 2023-24 KMEA State Friend of Music Award, and Lester Diaz was named KMEA’s Administrator of the Year. Diaz is the head principal at Frederick Douglass High School.
Board Vice Chair Amy Green and Board Member Marilyn Clark joined Fine Arts Director Katherine Lowther and Diaz in accepting the two awards on Feb. 9 during KMEA’s statewide conference in Louisville. KMEA singled out our school board for their commitment to music education, including new investments in visual and performing arts. The board earlier received the Friend of Music honor for District 7, which includes schools in Bourbon, Clark, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Harrison, Scott, and Woodford counties.
