Dunbar & Winburn Lead FCPS in 2025 Governor’s Cup

As Kentucky’s premier academic competition, the Governor’s Cup encourages depth and breadth of knowledge, cultural literacy, teamwork, leadership, creativity, risk assessment, and critical thinking. In the 2025 state finals in Louisville, Paul Laurence Dunbar tied for 16th place overall. Frederick Douglass was 20th, and Henry Clay finished 24th in the high school field. Top-10 individual efforts:

  • Mathematics – 2. Daniel Lee of Dunbar; 6. Sayed Damaa of Douglass
  • Science – 7. Sayed Damaa of Douglass
  • Composition – 4. Kate Hastings of Henry Clay

HS Complete Results

In the middle school division, Winburn placed 10th overall and tied for fifth in the quick recall contest. Edythe J. Hayes tied for 22nd in the final team standings. Top-10 individual efforts:

  • Mathematics – 4. Brandon Tedja of Hayes; 6. Samuel Myint of Winburn
  • Science – 9. Andrei Cornea of Winburn
