Community Resources Available in Winter

As Lexington prepares for another round of wintry weather, FCPS shares these community resources that might help our families. 

Food

God’s Pantry locations:

  • Northside Library – No referral needed. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the pantry at noon. The first 40 families registered will be able to shop.
  • Various sites -- Call (859) 259-2308 weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. to schedule an appointment for the pantry at St. Luke (2351 Alumni Drive), Cambridge Drive (1902 Cambridge Drive), Central Pantry (219 East Short Street), or 817 Winchester Road.
  • Mobile Market calendar

Lexington Rescue Mission – All meals are free. Breakfast is served from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday-Saturday and lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Guests may also take produce, bread, and food from our distribution table, as available. In addition, guests can meet with a resource coordinator from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for help with clothing, hygiene products, household supplies, food bags, IDs, and transportation.

Meal Handout at FoodChain: Dinner (anyone) Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 501 W. Sixth St, Suite 105 (where Jefferson St. meets West Sixth St.)

Northeast Christian Church Food Pantry: Open 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays with dairy, breads, meats, fresh vegetables and fruits, and non-perishable foods. Spanish translators may be available. Porter Memorial Baptist Food Pantry: 4300 Nicholasville Road; Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Call to reserve a spot, (859) 272-3441.

Utilities

Kentucky’s LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program) is accepting applications through March 15 on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Community Action Council, (859) 300-6960.

H2O Help to Others Program (bill assistance for Kentucky American Water customers) Eligibility: Household income at or below 225% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines; contributed at least $25 toward the bill in the last 180 days; an outstanding account balance of $50 or more. Complete an intake form.

Lexington Rescue Mission: 444 Glen Arvin Ave.; (859) 381-9600. Winter weather day shelter available, including hot meals. Hours: Monday 8 a.m.-3 p.m.; Tuesday-Thursday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Nest: Basic needs assistance at no cost, including diapers and wipes, toiletries children’s clothing, formula, and infant care items. Walk-in hours: Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.; Thursdays by appointment only. Call (859) 259-1974 ext. 222.

Fayette County Sheriff's OfficeWinter Care Program. Call (859) 252-1771 for:

  • Transportation to and from a workplace for staff in the healthcare industry or professionals who provide direct healthcare services
  • Transportation to and from a critical medical appointment
  • Pick-up of critical prescription medications
  • Welfare checks for our most vulnerable citizens
  • Distribution of winter coats

LexTran: Free bus rides to shelter during emergency plan activation via any fixed route.
