City Offers Free Community Book Gardens

The Lexington Community Book Garden is a citywide literacy initiative designed to eliminate geographic and economic barriers to reading by placing colorful, free bookstands in local neighborhoods. 

Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) invites all families, neighbors, and community members to stop by a Book Garden location to explore the stands, discover exciting new stories, and help children build their very own home libraries!

• Black and Williams Center -- 498 Georgetown St.
• Commonwealth Credit Union -- 2540 Sir Barton Way
• Greenhouse 17: 4400 Briar Hill Road
• Westminster Community Center: 1510 Versailles Road
• YMCA North: 381 W. Loudon Ave.

The Backstory

This project -- built through a powerful collaboration known as the Fayette County Family Learning Community -- brings together Unite for Literacy, Toyota’s Driving Possibilities initiative, the National Center for Families Learning, Commonwealth Credit Union, and FCPS for a common cause. These partners fund, supply, and host the book gardens to ensure that children can take home high-quality books at no cost, with no sign-ups or restrictions.
