Board Receives Liggins' Resignation Notice

Board Receives Liggins' Resignation Notice

The Fayette County Board of Education has received a resignation notice from Superintendent Demetrus Liggins. The board will hold a special called meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, to address the notice and discuss interim leadership for the district. Room 150 at the John D. Price Administration Building, 450 Park Place, is the primary location of the meeting, but some board members might participate virtually. Discussion will be in closed session.

"I have not resigned. I remain the superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools," Liggins said later Tuesday night. "I have only requested that the board engage in discussions regarding a potential separation agreement. At this time, no resignation has been submitted, accepted, or finalized."

Throughout this transition, the board's priority is maintaining stability across the district and ensuring students remain at the center of every decision. Fayette County Public Schools is focused on supporting student success and ensuring a smooth and stable transition for students, staff, and families.
