Board & Superintendent Set for Governance Training

Board & Superintendent Set for Governance Training

The Fayette County Board of Education and Superintendent Demetrus Liggins will participate in Student Outcomes-Focused Governance Training, a transformative two‑day program facilitated by the Council of the Great City Schools. This training is included as a core service under the district’s membership with the organization.

Scheduled for July 31 and Aug. 1, the program will immerse board members in governance strategies grounded in research-based methods, with a direct emphasis on elevating student success. The curriculum covers Vision & Goals, Values & Guardrails, Monitoring & Accountability, Communication & Collaboration, Unity & Trust, and Continuous Improvement -- six competencies designed to align board behaviors closely with student outcomes.

The training embodies Fayette County Public Schools’ proactive commitment to governance excellence, reinforcing that strong leadership and strategic decision-making at the board level directly support student achievement.

“It strengthens our board’s capacity to lead collaboratively, hold itself accountable, and ensure every decision is driven by what’s best for FCPS students," Liggins said.

After the initial sessions, the board can opt into a two‑year training partnership that offers deepened support such as board coaching, governance reviews, self‑evaluations, and goal monitoring tools to sustain continuous improvement over time. The proposal for ongoing training and associated contract terms, including a member discount if the full board commits, will be discussed at the Aug. 4 planning meeting. Board members will have the opportunity to review and decide whether to continue with the training services beyond the initial two days.
