Superintendent Demetrus Liggins reviewed over three dozen items on the consent agenda for the June 22 regular meeting and gave board members a chance to ask questions of staff, pending action later this month. Among those items, with presentations hyperlinked:

• Request for Tates Creek High's International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to be designated as a gifted and talented (GT) option in FCPS, specifically in the area of leadership
• Recommended rezoning plan to accommodate the August 2027 opening of Helen Caise Wade Elementary on Greendale Road
• Proposed updates for the 2026-27 Student Code of Conduct
• Recommendation of a vendor for the next audit contract
• Policy update to comply with recent changes to state statute clarifying unused leave time; an employee’s total sick leave balance shall not exceed 13 combined sick and personal days for the year, effective June 30

Other Agenda Highlights

In the night's only action item, the school board approved the sale of a 1,168-square-foot parcel at Lexington Middle School for $1,500. The Lexington Freedom Train Committee, through Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, seeks to expand the educational plaza at the corner of North Limestone and East Fourth streets in front of the school.

Under the consent agenda, the board approved several items including cafeteria meal prices for 2026-27.

Legislative Session's Impact

During the Superintendent's Report, the board received an update on the impact that action taken during the 2026 Legislative Session will have on Fayette County Public Schools. Chief of Staff Tracy Bruno spotlighted specifics from several House and Senate bills, including changes to the rules for non-traceable communication between staff and students, and standardization of all district school boards to five board members.

On the Horizon: Vote on Industrial Revenue Bonds

After further discussion, the board is expected to vote June 22 on proposed industrial revenue bonds for the renovation project at Rose Tower apartments and a residential development on Midland Avenue.
